Heading south reach Naples for an orientation drive. See the waterfront promenade and Santa Lucia, the Royal Palace, mighty Maschio Angioino castle and the busy harbour. Via the coastal highway past Vesuvius and Pompei drive to Sorrento seeing dolomitic cliffs towering straight up out of the sea. Take a stroll along   colorful back streets lined with shops showing typical inlaid wood handicrafts. Rocky inlets, cliff-hanging villas, terraced gardens and the Amalfi drive seems fantasy more than reality. Positano where a picture postcard comes alive with whitewashed and pastel houses tumbling down the cliffs to a beach dotted with brightly painted fishing boats.  Time to explore elegant designer boutiques or to enjoy a “limoncello” at a beach front cafè. At the mouth of a gorge find Amalfi. Colorful backstreets lead to the cathedral square with the imposing 13th century Duomo.  On to romantic Ravello hideout of poets and musicians. See beautiful villas and gardens and enjoy superb view of the Bays of Naples and Salerno.
